Help Wanted: Mt. Temple

By on June 16, 2007 in Call for Help with 5 Comments

Here’s a good example of the kind of information I’m missing and could use some help finding.

1. What was the exact date that Mt. Temple opened? What was its first day of classes? I know it was Fall of 1972….

2. On a related note, I’m 95% sure this is correct based on all the reading I’ve done. It’s each band member’s first year at Mt. Temple:

Bono: 1972
Edge & Larry: 1974
Adam: 1976

Can anyone provide reliable information to correct that if it’s wrong?

Here is the Mt. Temple school website:

    http://www.mounttemple.ie/index.php

That’s about all I could get. Unfortunately a lot of the links are “Coming Soon” (such as “History,” which will probably have your answer).

They do, however, have contact information here:
    http://www.mounttemple.ie/contact.php
so perhaps you could email them?

Hi Erika — I did email them about a year ago, but never got a response. I can try again. But if anyone knows this info., please post it here. 🙂

According to “I Was Bono’s Doppelganger / Killing Bono”, Neil McCormick says that Edge was in his year at Mount Temple and Larry was in the year below. I think that would place Edge starting Mount Temple in 1973, and Larry in 1974. It would seem that Larry’s later birthdate in 1961 resulted in him being in a different school year than Edge.

In Killing Bono, McCormick says his first year at Mount Temple was 1975. While he does mention Larry being a year below him, Edge being in his year and Bono being a year above him, the only time he specifically refers to someone starting at Mount Temple is when he first mentions Adam:
“Adam Clayton arrived at Mount Temple in 1976…”

Thanks, thatbutterflygirl — that book and 1-2 others is where I’m getting my dates from. It’s hard to pin down because they didn’t all arrive at Mt. Temple as “freshman,” or whatever the equivalent is in Dublin.

I should try to get in touch with Neil M. to confirm this stuff…..
