Have a Sneak Peek at U2-A Diary
I’ve spent the past three days re-reading U2: A Diary (and I’m nowhere near finished). But instead of reading a MS Word doc, I’m actually reading proofs of what the book will look like when it’s published later this year. Sweet!
I can’t keep this to myself, so here are a few sample pages (click to see a larger version of each one):
The above is the beginning of the 1981 chapter. This is (currently) pages 38 and 39 in the book. You’ll see some gibberish text below the color photo — that’s where a photo caption will go.
And this sample is the next two pages from the 1981 chapter – pages 40 and 41.
The reason I’m going through all the proofs is to try to catch any remaining typos, make sure photos are generally placed in the right places, write some photo captions, and stuff like that. Need to wrap this up soon so the book can get sent to the printer! Back to work I go…..
awesome matt! how exciting to see a proof. congratulations on all your efforts. I’m sure this will be a very popular book.
Great layout and I like the unseen photos. The date format is going to be a big hit, all previous accouts have been somewhat jumbled up, here we get for the first time, a sequential account.
that is so awesome matt.
this book is #1 on my must have list!
Ooh.. the book looks interesting! I’ll buy it!
Looks great! I cannot wait to get this book!
Looks really good. The layout seems awesome. Will it be different information for the most part than U2 by U2? Bravo!!!
It is looking great Matt! Can’t wait to see the finished book. Best of luck tying up the loose ends.
looks great, matt! love the format. love march 8’s entry, too — THAT’s the sort of little gems that flesh out the spirit of U2; are going to make this book a must have! keep it up!
WOW… the book looks awesome. Very impressive!
Nice work, Matt! Can’t wait til I can buy a copy and look at those pages in actual-size. 🙂
Congratulations Matt. It looks great!
Fabulous, Matt. Really fabulous!!!
Matt, this looks great …
… BUT, you really need to lean on your publisher to get a picture of U2 on the cover of this book.
This is for hardcore U2 fans, and a picture of Bono and Edge with no Adam and Larry looks terrible on a book that is titled U2 Diary. If it’s the Bono and Edge Diary, disregard this post.
REPRESENT THE WHOLE BAND MAN!
Thanks for all the great feedback, gang. Really appreciate it. To those asking about the cover — last I heard, the plan was to update the cover to show all four band members. I’ll have to double-check on what became of that plan. Will post an update on the blog when I have one.
Matt, It looks terrific. I’m very impressed. I am wondering if you had to pay for the use of the photos?
I know first hand how expensive that can be.
Good luck, and know I will buy this book!
Thanks, Val. Omnibus is purchasing the rights to use various photos, yes. But it’s not coming out of my wallet. 🙂 And of course, I had a lot of great fan photos submitted, too — and am seeing lots of them in the proofs.
Matt, this looks great and I can’t wait! I’ll be looking for the picture of Bono and Adam from the Vertigo tour I sent you 😉
YOU CAN JUDGE A BOOK BY IT’S COVER AND I REALLY REALLY DON’T LIKF YOUR COVER. PLEASE TRY TO CHANGE IT. I GUARANTEE YOUR SALES WILL BE AFFECTED BY IT.
Fantastic – I will buy this book and make you incredibly rich. Well, I will do my part. What does it take to get an autographed copy from the author? How about a virtual book release party?
Wow! That look fantastic. I have to say before I clicked on the link, I had low expectations but…wow, that looks like a top-hole job! I’ll buy it!
Picture-wise, were you able to get the rights for some ‘new’ pictures that us long-time U2 fans might not have seen?
Just wondering.
Matt,
Book and format etc looks brilliant but I agree about the cover – you have to have the whole band on there!
Regards,
Richard
Looks great! Can’t wait to own it!!!
Matt,
Wow! It’s going to be a best seller with U2 fans, but I agree all 4 guys need to be on the cover. Either way I’m buying the book, and I can’t wait!
Matt,
I also want to say that you did one hell of a job writing a book, and geting it published. You have talent that not many have, and like I said i can’t wait until I get the book, read it at bedtime, and fall asleep dreaming about my fav band.
To a job well done, Robyn
It looks fantastic Matt, can’t wait to buy the book!
wow, i feel like a real fan. right now…
I can hear Popmart in the background- its playing in surround from the living room. I look to the left of my monitor and framed photos I took from when they wer ein town with the Vertigo Tour. Their posters scattered round the walls and now my stomach jumps everytime I see an update on U2diary.com! Haha
Its great to see the proofs… full credit to you Matt. The book is going to be fab! I cant wait till its released. Hopefully will arive in Aus on the same date as the rest of the world! Haha- if not there is the beauty of express post.
Best of luck right thru to the end! gaz
Gazza, Sue, Robyn, Rhianna, et al – thanks for the kind words. I really can’t wait for the book to be out, and I hope all your expectations are satisfied — and then some! 🙂
