A day-by-day history of U2, now in its second edition.

Any Questions for Me?

By on November 7, 2007 in Writing with 11 Comments

Blogging has been a bit quiet the past week or so, for one simple reason: I’m doing monotonous work on the book right now that doesn’t lend itself to many discussions or calls for help.

What am I doing, you ask? Adding every tour date U2 has played into the manuscript. It’s terribly boring work, although I must admit it’s neat to see the text “filling out” so nicely with all the extra dates included.

So, since I’m not in blogging mode, how about I open the floor and invite you to ask any question you want about the book. Just ask your question in the comments to this post, and I’ll either answer with my own comment, or maybe I’ll do a new post with the answers (if there are a lot).

And if no one has any questions, that’s okay, too. 🙂 But if you do, leave a comment!

  1. Stuart says:

    Hey Matt.

I have an mp3 of a live version of Pride that contains an extra guitar solo after Edge’s regular solo. I highly doubt it’s Edge playing, and I’d either guess it’s BB King or a guest guitarist from some Unforgettable Fire gig. Either way, I’ve not been able to find any reference to this version.

    Any clues?

  2. Matt says:

No clue, Stuart – could be anything. You can email it my way if you’d like.

BTW, I was inviting questions about the book. 🙂

  3. Raul says:

Do you already have the cover done? How is it going to be? A photo of the band? A Bono photo? No photo?

  4. OptimaX says:

I would like to know the following questions:

    1. What is the size of the book going to be? I travel a lot and i think i like to have it with me so i can read it in public transport.
    2. Will there be a hardback and/or paperback version?
    3. As time will continue after the book is ready, is there some sort of clever way to ‘update’ the book with new additions? Or aren’t you planning on contineuing the diary after the book!

  5. blueshades says:

Will you be mentioning the founding of @U2? It is kinda important and none of us at the site could blame you for including it. 🙂

  6. Coca says:

    I have 2 questions,

there will be a pre -sale or something like?

and. If I buy the book, will you be able to sign it? 😀

  7. bjoern says:

sorry matt, but I just HAVE to ask this question: if there would be an audible version of the book, whom would you want to have it read by?

  8. Grantham says:

    Matt,

I think you are doing a hell of a job….I look forward to the book.

You’ll have to toss a Santa Hat reference in somewhere.

    Later..

    Janky.

    Hey Matt,
Do you by any chance have the dates of Lola Cashman’s employment by the band? I’ve heard so many different things on that anywhere from 9 months to 2 years (which is what she claimed at one point). I’d love to know when she started and when she was let go because I can’t really tell by the way they are dressed that they actually were paying someone to do wardrobe.

  10. Matt says:

Dana – LOL! You must be referring to those awful clothes U2 are wearing in the Paris DVD. Yes? 🙂 I don’t have any dates on her employment, and at the moment don’t have plans to read her book. That would probably be the most authoritative source, don’t you think? I’ll ask if anyone on the @U2 staff has the book and can research it….

  11. rihannsu says:

No, that’s the problem, I don’t think she is accurate. She claimed at some point to have worked for them for two years. But I had run across somewhere else where it was stated she was on a nine month contract as she was a last minute replacement for someone else who had to leave the tour due to pregnancy. Besides, given everything else I wouldn’t believe anything she says without cross documentation.
