U2-A Diary

You guys are so good at this, we’re gonna do it again. Sarah at Omnibus has sent me a bunch of photos that don’t have a date. These might be included in U2: A Diary, but we really need to know when (and where, if possible) the pictures were taken.

Some of these are quite obvious in general — “Oh, that’s the Joshua Tree Tour” — but we need to be as specific as possible so photos can be placed at the right spot in the diary/timeline.

If you can help us narrow down the dates on any of these photos, please reply in the comments of this post. And be sure to include the FILENAME so I know which photo you’re talking about.

Now that we’ve solved the first case of “When/Where Was This Photo Taken?” (thanks Mary!), how about we give it another try?

This is like “Ask the Audience” on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. I don’t know the answer, but the intelligent audience might be able to help. :-)

Sarah, the photo editor at Omnibus, asked me if I knew when or where this photo was taken. The caption included with the photo only says, Bono on stage, cutting up an American flag and throwing it back into audience.

First, that’s a white flag, not an American flag. Other than that, the main question is … when and where was this taken?

I gave Sarah a guess, but thought I’d turn to you, the ultra-smart U2 fans following this blog, to see if you know more about the photo than I do. I’m guessing you do. :)

I checked with Chris at Omnibus (my editor) to see if this is the cover, and the answer, in one word is:

Maybe.

:) There’s a big publishing industry trade show coming up in London and this is the cover they’re using for the promotional material that will be displayed there. There’s a chance it’ll be the final cover image, too. But also a chance it’ll change.
